Playwright and director Jonas Oppenheim asked me if I could write some original psychedelic cumbia music for the world premiere of his sci-fi sex farce, THE MOTHER SHIP at Sacred Fools Theater in Los Angeles. I said, "I don't know what that is." He said, "I'll show you!" And he sent me some samples of psychedelic cumbia. Through the power of audio osmosis, I learned how to channel the sound he desired so that the eggs inside the play's leading lady can dance around the bewildered fix-it guy after he transports into her uterine innards through a space portal from the kitchen. THE MOTHER SHIP premieres June 27th 2014 at Sacred Fools Theater.

Zachary Bernstein is The Bicycats. Born in Long Island, living in Los Angeles, has fond memories of time spent in Rochester, NY. Mostly influenced by clever bastards like Neil Innes, Margo Guryan, Cole Porter, and Jonathan Richman. There's an old song called, "My Sweet Tooth Says I Wanna (But My Wisdom Tooth Says No)". Tries to make up for the fact that he didn't write that one. ... more
